UN Resolutions to Preserve Lebanon’s Security
In an interview with Future News on Thursday, General Secretariat Coordinator of the March 14 alliance Fares Soueid said that Lebanon’s security hinges on strengthening the country’s national unity, on following the constitution, and on implementing international resolutions that protect Lebanon from any Israeli aggression.
Soueid also said that Foreign Minister Ali Shami cannot annul UN Security Council resolutions according to his own whims, especially if there was no Lebanese consensus on the issue. He added that he adheres to UN resolutions 1559, 1595, 1680 and 1701.
He commented on the private meetings held by Christian parties in March 14, denying reports of attempts to form a Christian political gathering independent from the alliance. Soueid said Christian parties in March 14 want to maintain the Christian-Muslim relationship, which, he said, is crucial.
