To whom it may concern – Elias Maalouf
Subject: Wakeup call…
First of all, I would like to highlight on some definition that I think it’s more or less lost or forgotten in our community these days:
– Democracy: is a form of government in which all eligible people have an equal say in the decisions that affect their lives
– Parliament: elected body of people (in an institutional sense) who would meet to discuss matters of state
– President and Government: it’s the executive branch; it consists of the President, the head of state, and the Prime Minister, the head of government. The parliament elects the president for a non-renewable six-year term by a two-third majority. The president appoints the Prime Minister, following consultations with the parliament
After defining the 3 major building blocks of our Lebanese regime, we can easily notice that the gold chain of this constitution is people, source of all power.
It’s you, it’s everyone one of us.
The purpose of this article is to pinpoint our essential and crucial role in building the new Lebanon, our Lebanon, democratic, peaceful, modern and free.
Following, is a short list extracted from certain facts that happened during the last few weeks that we keep reading and hearing without even knowing the pollution and damage caused to our brains:
– Having a majority in parliament and government then asking to do strikes; against whom?
– Replacing highly qualified ministers with some reporters of the Dark Age media; is it called “changing” for the best?
– Carrying bombs in peaceful suburbs of Beirut is not a proper way to solve financial conflicts; you can use guns (I think it’s safer and doesn’t need such expertise); for the future think of relying on sophisticated judicial procedure
– Using your mobile phone (at least hearing) or having Internet connection is not anymore luxury especially after many years of “re-form” and modernism of the telecommunication sector (price drops with the quality, watch out you should try not to reach zero for both)
– Protecting the presidency (first Christian position in the state) by giving the president only one voting power within the government
– Conspiracy theory is not working anymore; fighting against the whole world is called craziness
– Place to defend suspects/criminals is tribunals not talk shows
– Evidence are collected by highly qualified investigators not using Google Earth, hidden cameras, wiki leaks or any documentary of the worldwide media
– 2013’s election is in 22 months; is it enough to provide the Lebanese abroad with a voting procedure to express their legitimate right; or we’re totally dedicated to write speeches and find workarounds to defend crimes against humanity in the United Nations?
– Human rights is not an exotic western invention; Charles Malek, Lebanese Born in Bterram, drafts the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and was the Human Rights Commission's Chair
– Martyrs will never say sorry to their killers; if this is what you’re waiting for
Imagine after 20 years your son is reading this and asking you questions; what would be your reply:
– I couldn’t understand politics?
– There was a conspiracy?
– I’m neutral I don’t follow parties?
– I’ll not follow any leader!!!?
– I couldn’t do anything “they” are ruling the country?
It’s not about politics, nor leaders, nor parties; it’s all about you.
You are the leader; you are the source of power
We’re all accountable; we make leaders and we can also drop them
We can do the changes. We’ve done it before (Palestinian state in Lebanon, Syrian occupation, Israeli occupation…)
And we will do it again.
Please think before we sink.
To be continued…
