اعاد الشاعر موريس عواد “اللغة اللبنانية” الى الواجهة، من خلال الترشيح الذي قدمه لنيل جائزة نوبل للآداب.
وقد اعلن عواد، عبر صفحته على “Facebook”، ان ” صار في بْ لبنان لِغّا لبنانييّ، لغّا عم تاخد، يوم ورا يوم، مطرحا بل أدب ل عالمي”.
في ما يلي الخبر الذي ورد على صفحة عواد:

مزبوط، لْ ترشيح ما وصّل للجايزي، بس شَكّل إعتراف جديد ومهمّ بل لغّا لبنانيي.

Within the Arab context, Mr Awwad’s choice of linguistic medium has been a tremendously revolutionary and ground-breaking development in contemporary Arabic literature. This choice has often been met with much mistrust and diffidence on the part of the Arab literary establishment in general, and individual Arab literates in particular. Very often, these ‘respected’ quarters of traditional Arabic literature have sought to marginalize Mr Awwad, relegating him to the rank of ‘unconventional literary curiosities’. Nevertheless, Mr Awwad has never been lured by the promise of crowns of laurel hanging over his head, and he has never sought fame for its own sake. For Mr Awwad, writing literary works in his native ‘language’ is an existential exigency which he cannot relinquish, even if this entails marginalization and unpopularity. Mr Awwad is indeed very comfortable in the company of these two conditions. This is what makes Mr Maurice Awwad an extraordinary man of letters in the Arab world.
I honestly believe that such a constant commitment to literature in the Lebanese vernacular, against all opposition and marginalization from the Arab literary establishment, is a sign of great bravery which is encountered only in heroic persons. Thanks to Mr Awwad’s pioneer literary choices, the worthiness of the Lebanese language for literary purposes has been amply proven. وقد ندرَ أن نرى شاعراً طوَّر اللغّة وأَحياها بهذا القدر وعشقَ الارض وأَذاب ذاتَه فيها، الى هذا القدر. وكان على روحانيّة مستنيرة، تعرفُ الحقّ، وتجلعه صديقاً للشّعر، إلى هذا القدر…
وفي زمن تَنامتِ الفراخُ وكبُرت في ظلّ شاعر الفصحى والمحكيّة سعيد عقل، رأَينا موريس عواد ينتفض بجناحين نَسرين ويُحلِّق وحيداً في فضائه الخاصّ، مُضيفاً بتجربته على تجارب ميشال طراد وآخرين، معجماً شعرياً خاصّاً به، وبحقل حياته وخياله، وسعة موضوعات وتجليّات لم يعرفها الشّعر المحكيّ، أو العامّي، على مدى تاريخه. ولم يسبق أن شهد تاريخ لبنان شاعراً أنفق ستين سنة في خدمة الشعر!
وفي مراحل إزدادت حركة التحجّر والتطرّف، وارتبطت الفصحى كما السّياسة، بشؤون الدِّين، في الشّرق الأَوسط، دأَبَ عوّاد على جعل الشعريّ سيّداً، في الحياة، وعلى وسمه بالجديد الحَيّ القادر على مواكبة المستقبل، من دون تزمّت، أَو كبرياء، أو إنغلاق… إنه شاعر الفطرة، وشاعر الحرّية، وشاعر الشّرق المفعم بالحياة قبل البلاغة…
