There’s no doubt that a large number of comrades and other underlings were surprised by Dr. Geagea’s recent endorsement of General Aoun’s candidacy. Needless to say that this feeling is somewhat righteous given that it had been a least ten years since Dr. Geagea made an upheaval of this magnitude. Yet, it is not at all surprising to witness the man who put up a fight against the tripartite agreement and opposed the Syrian control over Lebanon in 1986, halt once more a scheme that aimed at destabilizing the Christians’ role in Lebanon.
Since 1986 nothing has changed; the plans have grossly remained the same with minor adaptation in regards to new components at hand. To be carefully spotted, said alterations require a real leader who is always on the lookout. For us, it is without a shadow of a doubt that we state: this leader goes by the name Samir Geagea.
Our most recent celebratory assembly at Meerab hit several targets at the same time: The first and most imperative achievement was the realization of the long-awaited Christian reconciliation that the majority of the Lebanese society and especially its Christian community was pleased with. Secondly, this stratagem shuffled all previous presidential calculations and put the spotlight on all the political components especially those who do not wish for the presidential elections to take place. Evidently, the ambiguous statements that the parties in question later broadcasted were the measure of the second target’s success…
It’s a fact that leadership, whether it is innate or acquired, cannot be readily generated; it needs a long itinerary that is full of challenges and risks to achieve its potentiality; such was the case for Dr. Geagea. With a case like this, and factors as flagrant as the ones mentioned above, it is no wonder that we firmly stand behind a man whose motto has always been best summarized by: “Where no others dare”.
