
On the 10th of March 2015, the Lebanese Forces. parliamentary bloc member MP. Joseph Maalouf submitted a draft law on “Strengthening Transparency in the Oil and Gas sector in Lebanon”.
The draft law is currently under its final review in the Energy parliament’s committee, and stipulates transparency provisions along the Oil and Gas Value Chain guarantying proper and transparent management of the potential national wealth.
On a parallel track, H.E. César Abi Khalil announced on the 27th of January, 2 days after the Lebanese Government declared its intention to join the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI), the opening of five offshore blocks for bidding for the first licensing round. This milestone falls within a comprehensive roadmap presented by Abi Khalil that will lead to the completion of the 1st licensing round by end 2017.
- The Lebanese Forces party is thus hosting a discussion table to delve into the roadmap presented by the Ministry of Energy (MoE), discuss the transparency measures taken to date by the MoE, and explore the role of the draft law submitted by MP. Maalouf in ensuring a transparent governance of the sector.
