The post… what’s forbidden becomes famous

حجم الخط

President Michel Aoun is heading to Kuwait tomorrow Tuesday for an official visit, while PM Saade Hariri is heading to Switzerland to participate in the DAVOS world economic forum.

In the absence of this week’s government meeting, attention has shifted towards the upcoming elections and the hype regarding Steven Spielberg’s movie “The Post” while news on the decree of officers promotions slightly faded.

The hype generated around this movie is clearly intentional since only in the past 3 years, more than 5 movies directed by Spielberg were showing in the Lebanese cinemas, so the question is “why now” why all this hype and organized campaigns? If we’re going to boycott on such basis, then let’s create a list of all actors, directors, writers, athletes, diplomats and countries who collaborate with Israel, so we can boycott them as well.

In this day in age, with YouTube, Netflix and social media, is it still logical to dictate which content the public can consume? haven’t they learned yet that all what’s forbidden becomes more popular? or that the best publicity for anything is forbidding it? or should there always be someone dictating what the Lebanese should watch or read? and finally, Isn’t it the best practice to allow the public to censor this movie or that book on a personal level?

Lebanon’s wealth is political, journalistic and cultural freedom, The Lebanese public has proved time and time again that their freedom, lifestyle and culture are sacred, and will never allow any attempt to change that.

On this note, Dr. Samir Geagea praised interior minister Nohad Al Mashnouq for his efforts to withstand all pressures to ban said movie, and stated that if Hizbullah and co are using Spielberg’s one million dollars donation to Israel as an excuse, then why don’t they boycott the US for their yearly donation of 3 billion dollars to Israel, or Russia for their close political ties and their daily military collaboration in Syria, let them boycott Moscow, what about the European countries, who are the closest allies to the Arabs, especially France, who all cooperate on a political, economic and cultural level with Telaviv, boycott them all.
