The crisis between Bassil and Berri, started with the decree of promotions, escalated with Bassil’s leaked video and translated into a violent scene on the streets which in turn threatens Lebanon’s stability.
Political tensions are normal in any country even if sometimes they cross the limits. but, what’s abnormal is allowing reactions to get out of hand, especially in a country that suffered similar painful experiences.
Lebanese Forces leader, Dr Samir Geagea clarified that he didn’t interfere due to his belief that random interventions lead to escalation, while the required is finding a suitable solution.
It’s unaccepted by the Lebanese Forces to use the streets as a combat zone, insulting the government’s authority and threatening public safety.
Dr Geagea insisted on differentiating between his assessment of Bassil’s video, his relationship and appreciation of Berri, as well as his disapproval of yesterday’s events, stating “it’s a clear violation to the state, a direct attack on uninvolved citizens, and an inappropriate reaction”
The Lebanese Forces priority is keeping the best interest of the country above any party’s self-interest, solving issues legally through governmental bodies, and effectively communicating to solve any crisis.
Our government, security and stability are red lines. What’s required today is turning a new page and focusing on the citizen’s daily needs, as well as preparing for the upcoming elections.
