There seems to be a new political scene in Lebanon, especially with the Saudi diplomatic envoy visit to Beirut and Hariri to Riyadh, a new scene doesn’t mean complications or reviving old alliances, but reinforcing the balance of the current status quo on two levels. On the international level with Saudi Arabia’s sustainable support to the Lebanese government and on the local level with the strong bond between the Lebanese Forces and the Future Movement.
It’s a fact that Riyadh always supports the Lebanese government and the relationship between the Lebanese Forces and the Future Movement is strong. Although these relationships went through unrest, the situation was easily sorted out when the parties realized that balance is essential for political and institutional sustainability, this balance can only be achieved through Saudi and international support to the state and through unity between pro-sovereignty political parties.
We can not deny that the political vision was blurred during the past few months due to reasons mentioned earlier, but the clear vision today serves the national interest to achieve a strong political period through a complete commitment to the self-distancing policy.
And indeed the public is focusing on Hariri’s return from Saudi Arabia, and what statements he brings with him, but what we know for sure is that Lebanon is entering a new political scene.
