Thank you, mother, for being you. You’re crazy, scary and quite frankly absolutely amazing. Without you, nothing would ever be done. You’re basically a superhero. As a young child, I never understood why you had to be so strict, but now I realize you had to do what was necessary to raise your kids the right proper way. I think all Lebanese people have the same mother in fact. There must be a rule book they magically acquire once they give birth. Thank you for cooking a meal made from scratch every single day. I’ll even thank you for the Mjadra days where I always protest at first but eat it nevertheless. Well, I don’t really have a choice but to eat Mjadra because you won’t cook anything else until it’s all gone. Throwing good food in the garbage while children in Africa are starving?! Never! Thank you for still taking doctor appointments for me even though I’m a grownup. Thank you for becoming more of a friend over the years. Thank you for yelling at me when I still embarrass you in front of your friends who have single children. How will I ever get married?! Thank you for believing me in me when I didn’t. Thank you for being disappointed in me to my face, but secretly brag about me to the neighbours behind my back. It’s your tough love I know. Thank you for being my daily gentle alarm clock. I love waking up to the sound of slamming closet doors while you yell a conversation with my aunt on the phone. It’s very refreshing, I highly recommend it to those who have never tried it. Thank you for your boomerang slipper skills, no foreign mother can quite capture this sport. That’s probably because they have child services. Mom, I love you more than anything on this Earth. I love you to the moon and back. Please don’t ever change because there’s nothing to change. You are imperfectly perfect. Thank you for everything. Thank you for you.
