Palm Sunday, the day Christians all over the world celebrate exactly one Sunday before Easter. Palm Sunday is also the last Sunday in lent and the last Sunday before the resurrection. This day marks the victorious arrival of Jesus Christ to the city of Jerusalem for Passover festivities. The people of Jerusalem welcomed Christ by setting their clothing as well as palm branches on his path through the city gates. And so this day became known as Palm Sunday. The Lord made his grand entrance riding humbly on a donkey. The donkey signifies that Jesus Christ truly is the king, but his kingdom is not of this material world. His kingdom lies in the beyond. His kingdom is the afterlife. Nowadays, people celebrate Palm Sunday by wearing their finest outfits, driving their fanciest car and having their children carry expensive decorated candles. They oftentimes forget that none of those things matter. Jesus Christ himself rode on an animal that was considered lowly or reserved only for poor people. What matters is being thankful for what one has. What matters is going to church and praying from the bottom of one’s heart. Have a happy Palm Sunday and may the skies stay blue.
