Daily Report: It was just like a dream
Geplaatst door Lebanese Forces op Donderdag 26 april 2018
On this day, back in 2005, the Syrian army left Lebanon. April 26 will always be engraved in the conscience of the Lebanese people and especially that of the Lebanese Forces which fought to reach this dream, yes, a dream, because we dreamt of seeing the Syrian tanks leaving Lebanon.
This is a truly glorious day, for the biggest and most historical Lebanese achievement was when the Syrian army exited Lebanon. Although Hezbollah’s presence prevents this day from being a chance to achieve sovereignty, the establishment of an actual state, and the celebration of a real independence, it is impossible to undermine this historical development that opened a door to a new, national horizon.
April 26th, 2005 is the date of Lebanon’s second independence after November 22nd, 1943. Especially that, the Assad regime used to think it’s presence in Lebanon would be eternal or, at least, similar to the Ottoman presence which lasted four centuries. However, the will for independence and sovereignty proved that, when united, the Lebanese people are capable of miracles.
The exit of the Syrian occupants from Lebanon is beneficial to all the Lebanese people because there are no people on earth who prefer slavery to freedom, just as there are no people around the world who prefer war to peace; instability to stability, and the absence of a state to the presence of one.
On this day, we pay homage to every martyr who fell defending Lebanon from the Syrian occupation, which we remember only to assert that our struggles and sacrifices were fruitful and worth it and that struggling is the only way to recover what has been lost.
