Some political parties are spreading rumors about Hezbollah’s parliamentary dominance and that the Party will control by exploiting its constitutional institutions. This talk is unreal and an intentional propaganda because no political party has parliamentary majority. It is worthy of mentioning that when the majority favored the March 14 coalition in the 2005 and 2009 terms, it failed to fully employ this majority because of Hezbollah’s weapons. Moreover, the party’s coup against the atmosphere of coexistence that was produced after the Syrian withdrawal from Lebanon by overthrowing President Saad Hariri’s government was neither successful nor lasting because Lebanon cannot be ruled by force and away from consensus. its false to believe that what happened in Iraq could be done again in Lebanon through the legislation of Hezbollah’s weapons because the balance in Lebanon cannot be broken by Hezbollah — considering that the Party does not have the majority, which is two-thirds of the parliament, neither does it have the possibility to surpass the national and sectarian reality. on the sectarian level, the Sunnis, who are mostly sovereign, cannot agree to the legislation of the Party’s arsenal; the Druze who are also a sovereign group will not support any attempt at legislation and neither will the Christians, who are sovereign at their core, accept such an attempt, especially that the majority of Christians either support the Lebanese Forces who is strictly against the legislation, or the Free Patriotic Movement who, after General Michael Aoun became president, are now in a neutral position and are unable to agree to such an act. furthermore, on the national level, any attempt to legislate Hezbollah’s arsenal will result in the seclusion of Lebanon from its surroundings and the world, hence instantly leading to its collapse and bankruptcy. Moreover, Hezbollah has been classified as a terrorist organization by numerous Arab and Western countries, and thus, if the Party was to control the state, it will lead to an embargo on Lebanon by said countries — and the collapse of Lebanon will not benefit anyone. All the reasons given, starting with the lack of parliamentary majority, to the sectarian and individual level that does not accept the legislation of inequality between an armed Party and an unarmed one, ending with the national level that will never turn a blind-eye to such an act, serves to prove that the talk about Hezbollah’s parliamentary and state dominance is nothing but the propaganda of intimidation.
