The meeting between Prime Minister Saad Hariri and Dr. Samir Geagea at Beit-al-wasat was the focus of all media and political attention because of its national importance and impact on the general atmosphere, and its occurrence after a period of disconnection — while some people were betting that the relationship would never return to what it was.
The meeting between Hariri and Geagea is a national and political necessity, both parties turned a new page while leaving behind the past without entering into any kind of reproach or blame placing. The elections were considered the dividing line between the last stage and the future phase which calls for an agreement on national and political perspectives.
The meeting focused on two main aspects: the establishment of the true state and the way it should be run. Dr. Geagea presented his observations regarding the mistakes of the previous phase and the need to avoid them in the future. The main objective was to restore the people’s trust, which the government adopted as its slogan and goal — seeing that this trust has still not been restored as required, and therefore future practice should be cleansed and unburdened in order to achieve people’s aspirations, in addition to the Lebanese citizens’ right for a decent living.
Dr. Geagea also spoke of a positive shock with new faces in government, and practical objectives, which focus on solutions for the electricity crisis, the catastrophic roads, the living situation and the struggling economy.
In all his meetings, Dr. Geagea insists on the need to separate ministerial responsibilities from parliamentary ones in order to achieve the required productivity, because the combination is not possible considering that 24 hours a day are barely enough to do one job as required.
There is no doubt that the Lebanese Forces, which constitutes a fundamental reformist force, is equally keen on the sovereign balance that is mainly embodied in the alliance between the Lebanese Forces and the Future Movement. Moreover, the coordination mechanisms required to follow up on all the issues, details and causes that push the state forward, were discussed and agreed upon.
