Geagea: Suleiman is Democrat by Practice
Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea said President Michel Suleiman is "a real democrat by practice."
Geagea made the remark to reporters after a visit to the Republican Palace in suburban Baabda for a meeting with Suleiman.
Geagea, who was accompanied by MPs George Adwan and Elie Keyrouz, said that constitutional institutions could only not be revived separately, and that Sleiman’s election four days ago had kickstarted what he hoped would be the start of prosperity for Lebanon and the Lebanese.
Geagea said he was pleased to see the republican Palace practicing its role in the nation”s politics after it remained vacant for over six months.
Geagea said the Lebanese Forces Party would facilitate formation of the forthcoming cabinet "and I do not expect other factions to hamper the march."
On Lebanese Forces relations with President Sleiman after the party criticized the then-army commander two weeks ago, Geagea replied that one of Sleiman’s qualities was that he was democratic in practice, and not just in theory. “The issues we raised with him were discussed directly.”
“It must be recognized that the first time in a long time, we have a democratic President of the Republic in every sense of the word,” he added.
