MP Franjieh: The opposition is in a state of confusion
MP Samir Franjieh said the problems facing the establishment of the government might lie in something other than the distribution of ministerial portfolios.
“Foreign developments, especially the divergence between Syria and Iran’s stances, are influencing [the government’s] establishment,” Franjieh told Voice of Lebanon radio station.
He also noted that the opposition is in a state of confusion because of regional developments, including the possible meeting between Israeli and Syrian foreign ministers next August and Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad’s comments to the effect that Syrian-Israeli peace talks would have positive repercussions on Lebanon.
Commenting on the government’s plan of action, Franjieh noted the difficulty posed by the resistance’s weapons, “despite the clear statement in the president’s inauguration speech about the defensive strategy.”
“The problem is regarding the nature of this defensive strategy,” Franjieh declared. “We can say that it has been decided that the existence of two armies – one belonging to the state and the other to a party or a foreign side – is not acceptable,” he added.
