NLP: The opposition is responsible for the obstacles in the way of the elections

 

The National Liberal Party (NLP) said that the obstacles in the way of the presidential elections reveal those responsible for the vacuum.

 

“The choice is either a president upon whom they and their regional allies agree, or simply a presidential vacuum to blackmail and terrorize the Lebanese,” a statement by the party said.

 

The NLP accused the opposition of thwarting the Taif Accord by calling for limiting the presidential term, imposing consensus on the PM candidate and the appointment of the army commander.

 

“No one denies the right of the opposition to seek guarantees over its share in the coming government,” said

the statement. “Yet, it should be sought through constitutional procedures and democratic rules,” it added.

 

The NLP said that March 14 can no longer accept compromises because it would be similar to surrendering without losing the war.

 

“The opposition and its regional sponsors should give consideration to March 14’s compromises and participate in the presidential elections without prior conditions,” the party noted.

 

“However, if the opposition carries on with its obstructions, then regional and international communities must bravely name those responsible for putting obstacles in the way of solutions,” it added.
