MP Allouch deems all arms outside state “suspect”
MP Mustafa Allouch of the Future bloc conveyed his fear that the recent security breaches in the Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen neighborhoods of Tripoli were “an integral part of completing the invasion carried out by Hezbollah in Beirut.”
Allouch said the Tripoli violence, which has left 9 dead in a week, aimed at placing all areas in Lebanon under security, political and economic pressure until they surrendered.
After meeting with the Lebanese Forces leader, Samir Geagea, at the latter’s residence in Maarab, Allouch said it seemed that delays in the government formation were deliberate.
“There are signs that the issues are being sorted out, especially after the efforts of Prime Minister Fouad Siniora and the President [Michel Sleiman], but we must await the outcome in the next 48 hours,” he remarked.
The Future official said disarmament should be a thorough, comprehensive process. Hezbollah considered its weapons “sacred and holy,” Allouch commented, “yet every weapon outside the state and legitimate authority is suspect, and must be placed under the legitimate authority of the state.”
Allouch said that Hezbollah’s arms were justification for armament by all parties, and called for dialogue on the arms of the resistance as soon as possible.
