MP Habib responds to Abi Nasr, Franjieh

MP Farid Habib of the Lebanese Forces (LF) responded to the media-disseminated political campaign “waged by the Free Patriotic Movement [FPM],” describing it as an anti-LF electoral campaign that would not achieve any of its objectives, because the FPM cannot deceive the Lebanese twice after what the FMP leader, General Michel Aoun, pulled in the elections of 2005.

Habib challenged “General Aoun, his deputies and the people surrounding him claim to care for on the rights of Christians,” to ask their ally Hezbollah for the separation of Baalbek and Hermel, or Hasbaya and Marjayoun, into separate electoral districts. He also asked whether Aoun could request Hezbollah withdraw their gunmen from Christian areas, particularly SAnnine and Ouyoun al-Siman, rather than “fabricate imaginary championships and victories to mislead the Christians.”

Habib responded to FPM”s Change and Reform bloc deputy Naamtalla Abi Nasr’s accusations, who he said he “respected greatly,” by emphasizing the incumbent Prime Minister Fouad Siniora supported the Maronite president and was trying to facilitate his term much more than General Aoun, who had not stopped trying to undermine the rule of President Michel Sleiman and weaken it by imposing unduly demands, such as the request for the Interior and Defense Ministries.

The MP questioned how the FPM’s Change and Reform bloc expected other parliamentary bloc to accept its electoral law proposal and pass it immediately, when the proposal did not comprise the reforms called for by the National Council for Electoral Law, which drafted the Fouad Butrous law.

MP Habib also responded to former Minister Sleiman Franjieh’s comments on LF leader Samir Geagea, saying that Palestinian official in Lebanon Shaker Al-Abssi did not represent the Christians “because both he and you [Franjieh] represent the school of Syrian affiliation, which is fixed in the history of Lebanon – and no graduates of that school can represent the Christians.”
