Gemayel defends democracy against “mini-state projects”
Kataeb President Amin Gemayel emphasized the need to continue to defend democracy in the face of “other projects” that aimed at surpassing the state and creating mini-states.
“The Kataeb reject battalions at the expense of self-rule and national sovereignty, and this is the crux of [our] problem with those trying to create a mini-state at the expense of the Lebanese state, which embraces all,” Gemayel said during a meeting of with a delegation of lawyers at the Kataeb headquarters.
The former president of Lebanon also met with Russian Charge D’Affaires to Lebanon, after which he pointed out Russia’s “historical relations” with Lebanon.
The Charge D’Affaires in turn stressed the importance of Lebanon as a factor of stability or disruption in the region. He also underlined the importance of unifying ranks among the Lebanese in order to be able to overcome the crisis, adding that Russia could help but could not replace the role of the Lebanese.
