Azour outlines challenges of new cabinet
Outgoing Finance Minister Jihad Azour emphasized that Lebanon was at a crossroads, adding that the next government faced the challenge of reestablishing institutions and restoring the rule of law.
“This is the main challenge after the difficult times we have experienced, plus a range of social and economic challenges,” Azour told the Voice of Lebanon radio station on Saturday.
He also said the new cabinet had to take Lebanon from “abnormal to normal” circumstances.
The minister said the government formation was difficult due to sectarian and regional distribution. These problems did not preclude the possibility of creating a new political formula based on experience and not political color, he added.
Azour pointed out that the government had reduced the burden of inflation on commodities and bread, and had absorbed the cost of rising global fuel prices.
