Opposition seeking to oust PM Siniora

In Tuesday’s edition of Al-Mustaqbal, National Liberal Party leader Dory Chamoun accused the opposition of seeking to delay the drafting of the ministerial statement for more than a month.

According to the constitution; preceding the cabinet’s formation the government has 30 days to draft its ministerial statement, which is now at risk of expiring. "The opposition is pursuing new legislative consultations in order to oust Prime Minister Fouad Siniora”, Chamoun said.

Chamoun expressed hope that Lebanon establishes a relationship with Syria based on equality and Damascus’ recognition of Lebanon’s sovereignty, which should be bolstered by the two countries demarcating their border, exchanging embassies and revealing the fate of Lebanese who are missing or detained in Syrian jails.

Chamoun told the paper that the best way to solve the problem of Hezbollah’s weapons is by agreeing with the party, that it will not employ them against other Lebanese and refrain from military operations in the coming six months to liberate the Shebaa Farms.
“The government must be given the chance to liberate the territory through political and diplomatic means,” he said, adding that Hezbollah is still trying to establish an Islamic republic in Lebanon.

Chamoun denied rumors that he has left the March 14 forces, which he said should act as a united front in the 2009 legislative elections.

He said that the opposition is not skilled enough to engage in politics without using its weapons. “It failed to accomplish any political gains in the recent past through peaceful and democratic means because March 14 was united,” Chamoun told the paper.

“MP Michel Aoun is dreaming of wining the upcoming legislative elections by a 75% margin so he can amend the constitution and remove President Michel Suleiman from Baabda,” Chamoun added. “Aoun is a selfish person, and the Christian National Gathering he is presiding over has no value,” he said.
