Reporters Without Borders calls for the expansion of Lebanon’s Special Tribunal

The association Reporters Without Borders called for the expansion of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon to include all assassinations that occurred after October 2004.

The association sent a letter to Canadian judge Daniel Bellmare, who is to succeed Judge Serge Brammertz as head of the international probe into the killings, in commemoration of the assassination of MP and journalist Gebran Tueni.

“The association stresses on the need to carry on the cooperation with the Lebanese authorities over the investigations into the assassination of Tueni and An-Nahar journalist Samir Qassir, and the assassination attempt against May Chidiac.”

It also noted the ongoing political assassinations in Lebanon. “Solving the assassination of ex-Premier Rafik Hariri seems to be the only way to achieve a breakthrough in the other crimes,” the statement added.
