Mouawad and the Impossible Coexistence with Hizbullah Weapons

MP Nayla Mouawad said on Wednesday that coexistence is "impossible" between the state of Lebanon and the "illegal weapons," in reference to Hizbullah.

Mouawad made the remark after receiving head of the U.S. diplomatic mission to Lebanon Michele Sison.

"It is obvious that we are facing two options: Either the democratic state of Lebanon or the Hizbullah state," she said.

"We would not accept the placing of red lines beyond which the Lebanese Army is not permitted, be they at the (Beirut) suburb, Nahr al-Bared, Sujud or in any other location on Lebanese territory" she added.

Mouawad also rejected a proposal by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to form a joint committee grouping the Lebanese Army and Hizbullah.

"The only solution is to restrict the decision to go to war to the state that should also be the only side that possesses weapons and manages the defense policy," she concluded.

The attack on a Lebanese Army helicopter by Hizbullah operatives in the southern Sujud hills "stresses that there should be no two armies … and two states in Lebanon," she concluded.
