Najjar says Aridi assassination was attempt to trap new allies
Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar told the Voice of Lebanon radio station on Thursday that the assassination of Democratic Party member Sheikh Saleh al-Aridi aimed at “trapping new allies,” a reference to the reconciliation between PSP leader MP Walid Jumblatt and Democratic Party Minister Talal Arslan. He added that the killing was a blow to the efforts to calm Mount Lebanon.
Najjar said that the general situation showed no signals that security conditions would deteriorate, and there was still room for restoring calm and carrying out dialogue in Lebanon.
Najjar added that the state should strengthen the security forces and provide them with more equipment, which everyone should encourage.
