Aridi’s assassination is part of a larger conspiracy against Lebanon
The Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic Sheikh Mohammad Rashid Qabbani condemned the Wednesday night assassination Sheikh Saleh Aridi, calling it a “terrorist act.”
In a statement released on Thursday, Qabbani said the killing was intended to undermine reconciliation and the improving political atmosphere in Lebanon.
He said the killing was part of a larger conspiracy against Lebanon that aimed to destroy the country’s unity, and he called on government authorities to redouble their efforts to maintain security.
Qabbani also warned that of the danger presented by a return of political assassinations.
