Cedar Revolution Deserves Sacrifice”s

Lebanese Forces MP George Adwan said that the Lebanese Forces would respect the voters’ decision in the 2009 parliamentary elections, adding that political competition is preferable and leads to advancement. “We have the potential to make this competition democratic, and we will not cut communications with other parties despite differences in our opinions,” he said.

In an interview with the Free Lebanon radio station on Saturday, Adwan said that the Lebanese Forces was open to all attempts at reconciliation in order to decrease tensions. He said that Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir had made historical steps and that there would be reconciliation in the near future. Adwan added the Lebanese Forces had turned the page on the past and was ready to do anything to engage different points of view.

Adwan said that the appropriate response to the Bsarma incident, in which supporters of Marada and the Lebanese Forces clashed and two people were killed, would be to facilitate reconciliation. He said that unifying the Christian community would parallel unification in the national arena.

Adwan said his relationship with Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt was more than a political one, and it had deepened as they both belonged to the March 14 alliance. “I tell Walid Jumblatt that the Cedar Revolution has cost enough in blood and martyrs, particularly Rafik Hariri and others, and it deserves some sacrifice,” he said.

“I tell Michel Aoun that even during the most difficult times there must be communication and divergent points of views must be included in dialogue, and Aoun knows that the Lebanese Forces are totally ready for any rapprochement,” Adwan said.

Adwan also addressed Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, and said “Who offered his son as a martyr knows exactly the meaning of martyrdom; he must give credit to anyone who sacrifices himself for Lebanon and value the martyrdom of others.”
