National Liberal Party: The vacuum is part of a Syrian-Iranian plot

 

The National Liberal Party said in a statement after its weekly meeting that the consecutive postponement of the presidential sessions, especially after the opposition declared its support for Army Commander General Michel Sleiman, reveals a Syrian-Iranian plot aimed at prolonging the vacuum in Lebanon.

 

The party said in a press communiqué that the prolonged vacuum serves the interests of the opposition, especially its strongest faction, Hezbollah, who wishes to impose a new system in Lebanon.

 

“This faction will impose itself by threatening the system of mutual living and the unity of the Lebanese people as laid out by the Taif Agreement,” the party said.

 

It also noted that this will endanger the Special Tribunal for Lebanon and the country’s heritage of diversity, democracy and human rights.

 

“For these reasons, we call on all MPs who are holding on to Lebanon’s independence and sovereignty to give primacy to national interests and face those conspiring against Lebanon,” the statement added.
