Tripoli is Not Kandahar
MP Mohammed Kabbara on Thursday accused Syrian intelligence agencies and followers in Lebanon of seeking to brand the northern city of Tripoli the "Kandahar" of Lebanon.
He was referring to the power base in Afghanistan of the Taliban Movement.
Such an alleged campaign, according to Kabbara, "aims at misguiding the world opinion."
The Syrian regime of President Basher Assad wants to "punish citizens of Tripoli and north Lebanon for their national stands," he said.
The March 14 alliance that opposes Syria”s interference in Lebanon enjoys wide popularity in Tripoli and the Akkar Province.
Kabbara said the Syrians "are not capable of advancing even one inch into Lebanon … times have changed."
