Investigation into Hajj assassination reveals important information
Well-informed sources in Beirut told the Saudi daily Okaz that the investigation into the assassination of Lebanese army Brigadier General François Hajj has revealed important information.
Hajj, who headed the Lebanese army’s operations section, was assassinated by a roadside bomb placed in a car in Baabda on December 12.
Sources said that several people suspected of belonging to a terrorist cell were arrested in the Bekaa and North Lebanon for suspicion of involvement in Hajj’s assassination.
Three Lebanese men were arrested on December 13 on the outskirts of the southern port city of Sidon near Ain al-Hilweh and were questioned in connection with the license plate of the car that exploded.
Records from the motor vehicle department have shown that each of the three men had owned the car at one point, but that there was no clear evidence to incriminate them in the murder.
