Murr: Deputy Premier to Museum District, Not Grand Serail
MP Michel Murr on Thursday said the deputy premier should have an office at the cabinet house in the Museum district and not at the Grand Serail.
Murr, talking to reporters, said the Grand Serail is the premier”s headquarters, and Deputy Premier Issam Abou Jamra should be based with the cabinet, not its head.
Murr said there was no point in creating an issue over the deputy premier”s powers, especially at this time during which "we are involved in national dialogue and the people are hungry."
The issue of the deputy premier”s powers was "tackled in 1992, and we agreed that we should maintain the status as it is."
He said the powers pose a "delicate issue. Our constitution states that the cabinet would be termed resigned if its premier rendered his resignation. So if the premier is on a foreign assignment and his deputy rendered his resignation that would torpedo the cabinet," Murr warned.
