Aoun Has Transformed the FPM into another SSNP
Democratic Gathering bloc MP Marwan Hamadeh told the Voice of Lebanon radio station on Sunday that Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun took with him to Damascus “the dignity of the people of Lebanon and will come back with nothing.”
He said he regretted that Aoun had transformed the Free Patriotic Movement into another Syrian Socialist National Party or “even less.” He noted that Aoun had made a deal with Syrian intelligence services before returning to Lebanon in 2005, before which he said Aoun had made a deal with the Israeli intelligence agency, Mossad.
Hamadeh said the March 14 alliance was not looking to promote its electoral interests by being open to all countries and decision making centers, but that it aimed to guarantee support for the Special Tribunal into the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri without politicizing the tribunal’s work.
He added that the coalition called for the presence of international observers to prevent the use of weapons during the 2009 parliamentary elections and affirmed that the Progressive Socialist Party was committed to its alliance with the March 14 movement, despite their small differences.
He said that the United States had not changed its strategy toward Iran and Syria but modified its tactics.
