Gemayel Tells Carter Elections Top the Agenda
Phalange Party leader Amin Gemayel on Thursday told former U.S. President Jimmy Carter the March 14 alliance would go into the forthcoming elections despite the fact that certain areas are not under state control.
Gemayel told reporters after his talks with Carter that efforts foreign observers are "important to help achieve credible elections."
He predicted that the side which "adheres to national principles and defends the nation”s independence would win the elections."
Gemayel said the Phalange Party”s agenda calls for "developing the Lebanese system."
Carter told reporters he would return to Lebanon in May to "monitor the elections and help settle some problems."
