Abu Faour Accuses March 8 of Not Wanting Elections

Cabinet Minister Wael Abu Faour on Sunday accused the Hizbullah-led March 8 coalition of not wanting elections "because it is aware of the results."

"It seemed that in yesterday”s (Cabinet) session there was one team — March 14 — that wanted to hold (parliamentary) elections because we have full confidence in (winning) the votes of the people," Abu Faour told the Voice of Lebanon radio station.

He defended Democratic Gathering leader Walid Jumblat”s stance regarding Syria, saying it was "wise."

Abu Faour stressed that Jumblat will "not relinquish his position," and warned that "if the Syrian regime does not meet Lebanese demands then there will not be a free-of-charge openness to Syria."

"There is an attempt to subdue Jumblat by saying that the Mountains is subject to rift. I say there is no rift in the mountains," he affirmed.

Abu Faour said Jumblat did not ask Lebanese Democratic Party leader Talal Arslan to change his political stance.

"We have agreed to keep the relationship calm despite our political differences," he explained.

Abu Faour described as a "misunderstanding" the dispute between the majority and the opposition at Saturday”s Cabinet meeting.

"Minister Mohammed Safadi and we share the same political stance; and Tripoli deserves a lot," he added.

On the issue of the international tribunal, Abu Faour said: "Generally, I expect a deal. I don”t believe that the international community is willing to make free cost offers. A large part of tension goes to successive reports that the international court won”t go backwards. This is frightening."
