Lebanese government calls for probe into rocket fire
The Lebanese government on Thursday called for a full probe to determine who fired rockets into northern Israel from south Lebanon, a government official told AFP.
"Lebanon denounces and condems the firing of rockets and the retaliatory action and believes that such action is in violation of UN Security Council resolution 1701," the official said. "We have asked the competent authorities to investigate." He added that Lebanon was committed to the UN-brokered truce that ended the devastating 2006 war between the militant group Hezbollah and Israel.
Resolution 1701 helped bring an end to that conflict. Two people were lightly wounded by the rockets. An Israeli army spokesman said the army returned fire. The government official said Thursday”s rocket fire was the work of parties seeking to destabilize Lebanon.
