Government Rejects Turning South Lebanon Into Platform for Launching Missiles
The Lebanese government on Thursday rejected turning south Lebanon into a platform for launching missiles and said the army has started a "serious investigation" to determine who fired rockets into northern Israel.
The cabinet refuses to give Israel "pretexts" to launch a wide-ranging offensive on Lebanon, Information Minister Tareq Mitri said following a cabinet meeting at Baabda Palace.
Mitri also said that President Michel Suleiman and the government stressed Lebanon”s commitment to U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701.
"Lebanon denounces and condemns the firing of rockets and the retaliatory action and believes that such action is in violation of U.N. Security Council resolution 1701," Mitri said earlier. "We have asked the competent authorities to investigate."
