Hezbollah Escape Dialogue on the National Defense Strategy Due To Gaza Crises
Head of the National Bloc Carlos Eddé said that the scenes of the Israeli offensive in Gaza are reminiscent of the July War 2006 which left a painful mark on the Lebanese. However, he said, there were differences between the Lebanese and the Palestinian situation.
“The Palestinians are engaging in battles against Israel to retrieve their nation which was taken by the Jews and their properties which were stolen by Israel, to be able to live in the homes of their fathers and grandparents which were and are still being destroyed and to retrieve their nationalities which the Israelis tried to erase,” Eddé said. The Lebanese, he countered, were forced to tolerate the 2006 attack due to Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s unilateral initiation of conflict.
In a statement on Sunday, Eddé said that as much as Israel needed Hamas and Hezbollah to continue the justification of its expansion policy, Hezbollah also needed the policies of Israeli violence and terrorism to justify its [Hezbollah’s] control of the Lebanese situation through its weapons. Eddé said Hezbollah was benefitting from the catastrophe in Gaza to escape participating in meaningful dialogue on the Lebanese national defense strategy.
Eddé said that in the coming parliamentary elections, the Lebanese must decide if they want to remain “permanent prisoners of the Hezbollah militia” and remain under the continuous fear of conflict initiated by Nasrallah at any time. However, Eddé said that the Lebanese could choose, instead, to vote for national sovereignty that would allow the Lebanese population the right to determine its history.
