Lebanon invited to emergency Arab foreign ministers meeting
Lebanon Foreign Minister Fawzi Sallukh has been invited to attend an emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers in Kuwait to discuss Israel”s offensive on Gaza, a foreign ministry official said
on Monday.
The January 17 meeting comes on "the basis on the calls made by Qatar to discuss the worsening situation in Gaza," the official said. On Sunday, Qatar called for an emergency Arab ministerial meeting under the auspices of the Arab League to seek ways to respond to the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip, state media reported.
Over 900 Palestinians have been killed since Israel”s offensive on the Gaza Strip began on December 27, according to medical officials in Gaza. Qatar has twice called for a Arab summit since the war started but an emergency summit was not convened because some states, such as Egypt, were not in favour.
Earlier this month, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said that he would convene an Arab summit even if it would be short of participants.
