PM Siniora: Constitutional vacuum will not occur

 

Prime Minister Fouad Siniora said that the Lebanese will be able to overcome all attempts to generate internal unrest and sectarian confrontation, because of the sacrifices of martyrs.

 

“The Lebanese can confirm that their national and daily security is being safeguarded, and that their institutions are functioning well,” Siniora said.

 

“We still have one big challenge, and that is, the presidential election,” Siniora said at a speech in commemoration of Lebanon’s Independence Day.

 

He also noted that the Lebanese parliament will be able to fulfill its role in electing a new president because of the efforts of people like Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir.

 

“We are sure that a political vacuum will not occur because the Lebanese do not, and will not, accept it,” Siniora declared.

He also called on MPs to overcome challenges and elect a new president according to the constitution.
