Biggest challenge is the upcoming elections
European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighborhood Policy Benita Ferrerro-Waldner met with Prime Minister Fouad Siniora in Grand Serail on Tuesday and stated in a press conference that, “the biggest challenge would be the parliamentary elections, and EU is ready to send a delegation to monitor the elections.”
Waldner revealed that she has discussed all regional and domestic issues with Siniora and particularly about the internal Lebanese dialogue adding that she hopes it would lead to reconciliation.
Waldner said, “The Doha Agreement should be fully implemented. I support Lebanese independent decisions and the national dialogue, which I hope would lead to reconciliation.”
She added that, “we back the investigation and the international tribunal; we have pledged 1.5 million dollars.”
In regards to the Lebanese-Syrian relations Waldner said, “We want to see the Syrian side move on the issue of diplomatic relations with Lebanon.”
