Ghanem unveils a petition to amend article 70 of the Constitution
Head of the Administration and Justice Commission MP Robert Ghanem told al-Mustaqbal newspaper that a parliamentary petition would be presented to amend Article 70 of the Lebanese Constitution on trying ministers and heads of institutions.
The article currently states that a two-thirds vote is needed to try ministers, and the petition aims to adopt the half-plus-one formula.
Ghanem also denied a certain group within the commission aimed to provide ministers with immunity, as media leaks reported. He said that judges and all state employees had immunity, and it was unacceptable to deprive ministers of this right, adding that such an act would paralyze the ministers’ work.
