Mufti Qabbani Urges Lebanese Expats to Vote
Lebanon’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Mohammad Rashid Qabbani on Tuesday urged Lebanese expatriates in Arab and western countries to stand by their right to vote as an exercise of democracy and freedom, and as a means to safeguard the sovereignty and independence of Lebanon.
During a meeting with the Lebanese expatriate community in Kuwait, the mufti warned of the “unusual attitudes, statements and insults” that had surfaced in political discourse. Qabbani also warned of attempts to win “electoral gains at the expense of the people.”
“Any disputes in the country must remain confined to the cabinet, and not turn into a launch of threats, intimidation, verbal abuse, which incite the sentiments of the Lebanese against each other,” he concluded.
