Marouni Warns about MoU Obstruction
Tourism Minister Elie Marouni warned that if the cabinet does not approve a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Special Tribunal for Lebanon on Thursday, its fate will be similar to the Council for the South.
"We are hoping that the MoU will be approved, because it reflects Lebanon”s credibility," Marouni told Voice of Lebanon radio station.
He also rejected turning the issue, which is on Thursday”s cabinet session agenda, into "another Council for the South."
This year”s budget has been stalled by bickering between March 8 and March 14 ministers over the Council for the South issue.
About the budget crisis, Marouni lauded President Michel Suleiman”s role, and urged more efforts by all sides to achieve a positive outcome.
"Everyone should assume his own responsibility, or else the country will remain without a budget," the minister told VDL.
He stressed that although the budget is not on the agenda of Thursday”s cabinet session, the issue should be resolved as quickly as possible.
