Russia ready to offers security, military assistance
Chairman of the Russian Federation Council”s Foreign Affairs Committee Mikhail Margelov said Wednesday he supported the implementation of UN Security Resolution 1701, adding that Moscow was willing to offer security and military assistance to the Lebanese Cabinet.
Following talks with Prime Minister Fouad Siniora on Wednesday at the Grand Serail, Margelov said the two discussed the Palestinian issue, the situation in the Middle East and Sudan and recent improvements in Lebanese-Syrian relations."Lebanon”s upcoming parliamentary elections would be an example of an attempt to ensure stability," he said, adding that the Russian Parliament had extensive experience in monitoring elections. On Tuesday, Russia offered to help monitor the elections on June 7 if the Cabinet asked for its help. Margelov also met with Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt in Mokhtara, and laid flowers at the tomb of Kamal Jumblatt.
