The West and Dialogue With Lebanon”s Ayatollah
Mr. Fadhlullah claimed that Hezbollah has no project beyond Lebanon. Yet Hezbollah has been implicated, together with its patron Iran, in the 1994 bombing of a Jewish Community center in Buenos Aires, Argentina, that killed about 90 people, all of whom were civilians.
Hezbollah”s Al Manar TV is so virulently racist that it has been banned in much of Europe. Hezbollah has also trained insurgents who went on to fight in Iraq.
If Hezbollah has no project beyond Lebanon, why does it often state that its main goal is the destruction of Israel? Why has it strongly supported the Sudanese regime? Why does its propaganda call for the murder of Jews worldwide?
The ayatollah asserted that Hezbollah is needed because the Lebanese army is weak. Quite the contrary, the Lebanese army has been kept weak because of the refusal of Hezbollah”s own heavily armed militia to become part of a national military force.
Hezbollah”s state within a state, funded by Syria and Iran, has prevented Lebanon from being truly independent from Syria.
