Cabinet Approves Appointments of Central Bank Governor Deputies
Cabinet approved late Thursday the appointments of all four deputies to the central bank governor.
They are: Mohammed Baasiri, a Sunni, Raed Sharafeddine, a Shiite, Saad al-Inderi, a Druze, and Armenian Harout Samuelian.
Local media earlier said that no progress had been seen on the budget impasse or the administrative appointments.
Pan-Arab daily Al Hayat said Thursday that the 2009 state budget crisis remains unripe.
It quoted well-informed sources as saying that an agreement had recently been reached between Speaker Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Fouad Saniora on budget figures.
Approval of the budget, however, seemed to be linked to other topics that are put on freeze pending a package deal, the sources added.
