Hezbollah, FPM instigate sectarianism
Mufti of Mount Lebanon Sheikh Mohammad Ali Jouzo said that sectarian slogans were overwhelming, as Speaker Nabih Berri said when he admitted that the electoral battle was both sectarian and financial.
“We praise Berri’s acknowledgement of reality,” he added, noting this issue was destroying Lebanon.
He also said that Berri’s allies were not hiding their plans, because Hezbollah was announcing publically that it loyalties were sectarian and Change and Reform bloc leader General Michel Aoun raised the slogan of “Christian marginalization” to instigate sectarian feelings.
“Some Christians remind us to return to the Maronite faith in order to gain support before the upcoming parliamentary elections. This call threatens all achievements since the Taif Accord,” he said.
He concluded that only Sunni figures were not making such statements, in an attempt to preserve national unity.
