Free electoral competition’ as an alternative to electoral battle
Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic Sheikh Mohammad Rashid Qabbani warned on Friday against the use of sectarian speeches in the forthcoming parliamentary elections and called for adopting patriotic and balanced rhetoric that reflected the people’s aspirations in ensuring a stable, peaceful and prosperous country.
He added the elections were important because they would define the state’s independence, sovereignty and freedom. He called on the Lebanese people to vote in favor of the state institutions and not for a state-within-a-state.
The Grand Mufti also called for “free electoral competition instead of an electoral battle” to consolidate civil peace without using violence.
