Gasoline tax revenue cannot be derived from alternate sources
Lebanese Forces MP Antoine Zahra said that with cabinet intending to pay different grades in wages and salaries it could not afford to lose revenue from gasoline taxes.
Speaking to Future News on Wednesday, he said the revenue from taxation on gasoline was worth approximately $665 million and “this cannot be derived from other sources.”
He also denied that March 14 alliance deputies had ever prevented a quorum to avoid the issue of decreasing gasoline prices.
“All Lebanese pay taxes on gasoline, while some do not pay electricity bills because they are in the name of clerics or politicians,” Zahra said.
“Recalling the May 7 events is totally unacceptable,” he added.
