Restricting arms to state alone will deter attacks
Sunni Grand Mufti of Lebanon Mohammad Rashid Qabbani called on the Lebanese parties to be tougher on the issue of restricting arms to the state alone, especially after Monday’s deadly attack on the Lebanese Armed Forces in the Bekaa village of Riyaq.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Qabbani said that “Lebanon is approaching elections that all the Lebanese parties are hoping will be carried out in a calm atmosphere without any problems, especially in the streets of Beirut.”
Qabbani also described the latest discovery of an espionage network in Lebanon spying for Israel as a “dangerous development that should prompt the Lebanese state to reinforce its presence, and spread its full authority on all it territories to secure the safety of the nation, the citizens and to renew trust in the state’s security and military institutions… especially the intelligence branch of the Internal Security Forces.”
“Lebanese parties should not use provocative rhetoric in their media and political addresses, and should shoulder their national responsibility to prevent the Zionist enemy from taking advantage of the fragile domestic situation.”
