Lebanese have lost faith in Hezbollah
Mufti of Mount Lebanon Sheikh Mohammad Ali Jouzou slammed on Thursday Hezbollah’s Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and said that admitting to smuggling weapons to Hamas via the Egyptian territories did not provide cover for the party’s violation of Egypt’s sovereignty, adding that Hezbollah was jeopardizing Lebanon’s relations with Egypt and putting Lebanese nationals working in the Egyptian state under its surveillance.
Jouzou also said that “Hamas did not know anything about the Hezbollah cell” discovered in Egypt two weeks ago and “denied being part of the group.” On the other hand, “Iran defended Hezbollah’s violation of Egyptian sovereignty,” something which he said put Tehran in a tight spot, where some could easily claim it was promoting sedition in the region.
Jouzou questioned Hezbollah’s arms, saying that it was not beyond reason for some to think it could be used against the Egyptian regime. He added that “people have lost faith in what Hezbollah’s secretary general says, as he had claimed in the past to use his party’s weapons only against Israel. But he used it in the May 7 events against” all Lebanese, assuring that there was a crisis of confidence in Hezbollah.
The mufti also slammed some Islamist groups who blindly supported Hezbollah, saying it was damaging to the Sunnis and their creed.
